Even elements of the sex roles that seem innocent are bad. Even the truly neutral ones (e.g. likes pink/likes blue) are needlessly restrictive. Most aren’t innocent, though. Boys aren’t meant to like trucks arbitrarily, boys are meant to like trucks because strength (from heavy vehicles) and brains (engineering) are traits meant to be reserved for men. Similarly, girls are meant to like dolls because they’re meant to grow into mothers (the nurturing nature of a smaller human) and decoration (the purpose of a doll is to look good, this message is internalized and applied to the female self.)
